AGM 2017 Presidents Message
Shree Kutch Leva Patel Community,
Jai Shree Swaminarayan, Jai Shree Krishna, Namaste
Members, welcome to 2017 AGM,
It is a huge honor and privilege in addressing our AGM as the President of SKLPC. Once again it is my belief that great strides have been taken over the past year and our Samaj continues to head in the right direction. So many people have contributed their time, expertise and money during the year and to each of you my sincere thank you.
I have always believed in our youth and constantly encourage members to join and take up lead roles within our committee. It is our job as elders to mentor and pass down our experience to our younger members and to see them prosper. We as elders must set the example and so after many years as Conveyor of Mela & Navratri, this year I have stepped down and handed the title to individuals under the age of 35.
Furthermore, and looking at our committee, the secretarial team and treasury team has an average age of just over 35, four out six of our independent advisors are sub 40 years of age. Yes, there are times when certain errors or misjudgment is made, however we must learn to support and guide them positively so they can continue to gain experience and better themselves and our samaj. I must commend these individuals on the time, commitment and effort they apply, whether it is during working hours or late evenings, it is inspirational for even us seasoned members. We thank you.
I would now like to summarise the initiatives taken up in the last year. As well as the efforts and successes of our regular events, Football & Funday last July, Mela Kutch Utsav in September and Navratri in October, this year we have also concentrated in carrying out a mini re-structuring program within SKLPC, which included:
Another major event completed this year was the Gujarat Charity Bike Ride. With over 50 cyclist riding from Bhuj to Ahmedabad over 3 days, our community managed to raise over £150K in aid of the two charities. This was a great example of how our young community members, Samaj, Gaams & Temples came together to deliver a successful event. Well done to all those who participated.
Achieving a new centre with state of the art facilities for our Samaj has always been the end goal and dream for our community. A new project team was formed in July 2016, including Architects & Planning Consultants and during the last 10 months, we have been moving forward in a steady but fruitful pace. There is approximately 8 further months of challenging work and which the committed team continues to work upon daily. Martin Evans our Architect is present here today to provide us a summary of the project and will follow my speech.
My final words, there are events when great thought and time has been invested into making decisions, and not all the time we can make everybody happy or have a successful outcome. However, I stress the importance to our members, gaams, and even my committee that we must work together harmoniously for the betterment of Samaj.
I sincerely thank you all for your continued support in progressing forward and continuing our Culture and Tradition. Let us embrace our Samaj and encourage active involvement from all our members. Our Samaj is moving forward, we have new ideas, we want your ideas and together we can make it happen. All of us pledging allegiance to the Samaj, a strong community unit with a strong sense of identity and preservation of our culture, traditions and heritage.
Lastly, thank you to my committee and trustees for their support during the last year.
