Jai Shree Swaminarayan, Jai Shree Krishna, Namaste
Members, welcome to 2017 Festival of Music, I hope you are having a great time and it’s great to see you all here again at Britain’s Kutch!!!
Once again it is my belief that great strides have been taken over the past year and our Samaj continues to head in the right direction. This isn’t just a one-person team, not even a 10 person or 100-person team. So many people have contributed their time, expertise and money during the year and to each of you my sincere thank you.
The Value of Unity
We have seen over the past 4 years the benefits in uniting our community together. We truly believe working cohesively with Gaams, Temples, Corporates Businesses, Overseas Santhas, Community Members has huge benefits and we should continue to do so. Yes, sometimes errors do occur, but I truly believe no members or committee’s purposley or maliciously actions decisions to disrespect one another. Our relationships are the same as marriages, we must continue to work hard and nature relationships, leaving personal pride and ego to one side and progress the vision of unity only.
I have always believed in our youth and constantly encourage members to join and take up lead roles within our committee. It is our job as elders to mentor and pass down our experience to our younger members and to see them prosper.
We as elders must set the example and so after many years as Conveyor of Mela & Navratri, this year I have stepped down and handed the title to individuals under the age of 35. Ravibhai Dhanji Varsani (who will be speaking later) is this year’s Mela Conveyor & Kiranbhai Devraj Pindoria is this year’s Navratri Conveyor. Yes, there are times when certain errors or misjudgment is made, however we must learn to support and guide them positively so they can continue to gain experience and better themselves and our Samaj. I must commend these individuals on the time, commitment and effort they apply, whether it is during working hours or late evenings, it is inspirational for even us seasoned members. We thank you.
Looking Forward & Main Drive 2018…
1. Achieving a new State of the Art Centre for our Samaj has always been the dream for our community. A new project team was formed in July 2016, which includes Architects, Planning Consultants and associated consultants. During the last 14 months, we have been moving forward in a steady but fruitful pace. The Planning team continues to work daily on this challenging work and we are hopeful that by Q1 of 2018 we will be able to bring you positive outcome. We have our appointed Architects exhibiting our submitted proposals and I request all of you go and visit the Planning area so you can see the proposed new scheme.
2. Another major review taking place is updating our SKLPC Constitution. This is an important document and is the spine of our Samaj. We are in the latter stages of issuing draft document to our Affiliated Gaams and Members for their comments with a view of signing off the final version by AGM 2018. Indeed, and as per my speech last year, we will also be proposing the introduction of Spouse Voting.
3. Another major event completed this year was the Gujarat Charity Bike Ride. With over 50 cyclist riding from Bhuj to Ahmedabad over 3 days, our community managed to raise over £150K in aid of the two charities. This was a great example of how our young community members, Samaj, Gaams & Temples came together to deliver a successful event. Well done to all those who participated.
I sincerely thank you the members, gaams, mandirs and corporate companies for your continued support in progressing forward and continuing our Culture and Tradition. Let us embrace our Samaj and encourage active involvement from all our members. Our Samaj is moving forward, we have new ideas, we want your ideas and together we can make it happen. All of us pledging allegiance to the Samaj, a strong community unit with a strong sense of identity and preservation of our culture, traditions and heritage.
Lastly, thank you to my committee and trustees for their support during the last year.
