HistorySince the formation of SKLPC(UK), 0n 4th Feb. 1972, this community organisation has 3,700 family members, 14 sub committees and 24 affiliated organisations in the UK.All the activities organised throughout the year are focused on the fulfilment of SKLPC (UK) Mission Statement: To enhance the quality of life through education, cultural, social and sports activities and instil values that will benefit society.As part of
the organised activities, SKLPC (UK) prides itself in working in partnership
with UK
and international organizations, Large & Small companies, Local and
national government bodies and emergency services to create community cohesion,
community empowerment and capacity building.
Vision
- Continue
building on the success of the present activities by appropriate investments
& key partnerships
- Continue
investment in the Hendon & Northolt facilities to encourage better
utilisation by the community.
- Design
& build a facility with a Multipurpose hall with a capacity for
1,500 people that can accommodate functions for our largest affiliated
organisations, Navratri festival and other indoor sports activities.
- Strengthen the existing
partnerships with the UK
and international organizations, Large & Small companies, Local and
national government bodies and emergency services
What does SKLPC (Samaj) do for the community?
A summary of the objects - The
advancement of Hindu religion, tradition and culture in particular among
the Hindu community in the United Kingdom
usually referred to as the SKLPC (UK) or Samaj UK
which originates from the Kutch Gujarat State
in India;
- The
relief of poverty, sickness and distress among the SKLPC
- The
advancement of education among children and adults of the SKLPC
- The
provision of assistance in providing facilities for the recreation and
other leisure time occupation and in particular of the SKLPC who have a
need for such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or
disablement, poverty and economic circumstances in the interests of social
welfare and with the object of improving their conditions of life.
Aim
- The aim is to
bring all the members of the Hindu Community together in a humble and peaceful
environment so as to promote the values of co-existence without the need for
total integration or assimilation and to have respect for Hindu heritage.
- The aims of the
charity are reflected in its Mission Statement as being "To enhance the
quality of life through education, cultural, social and sports events and
instil values that will benefit society".
Charitable
activities undertaken by SKLPC
- Saturday School - The School is run every Saturday during term
times at Claremont
High School in Kenton,
Middlesex.
- Gujarati is taught up to GCSE
level
- Other activities include tuition classes for English, and Maths.
- Culture
is promoted by teaching Harmonium, Folk dances and Bollywood dancing.
- Saturday School holds a Diwali party every year and all the
children studying at the school and their parents are invited.
- Navratri Festival -Over 2,000 members take part in Navratri
(religious) celebrations each year. This event is very popular with young
members of SKLPC and is held over 13 nights.
- Annual Function - SKLPC Annual Mela is usually held over one
day. The function is held in order to unite the Hindu community and in
particular the SKLPC in order to further the charities means and
objectives. Various local
dignitaries including MP's and VIP's are invited to attend. Attendance of
4,000-5000
- Diwali Fireworks - Free Event - SKLPC celebrate Diwali with a
professional fireworks display, a cultural stage programmes and rangoli
display. Attendance of 2,000+
- Holi Dhamaka - Free Event - SKLPC celebrates Holi in grand
style at the Northolt centre. Various MPs & VIP's joined us in
celebrating this colour throwing event which is highly regarded in the
Hindu calendar. Attendance of 2,000+ joined in to this celebration.
- Cricket Club - The club runs during the whole year and is
held at the SKLPC grounds during the summer. The club has raised its
profile significantly over the years and is now one of the most well known
clubs in the area with players of a high quality.
- Centre Management - This sub-committee is responsible for the
management and running of the SKLPC main Northolt Centre and the smaller
Hendon Hall. They are responsible for the maintenance and repair works for
both the centres and also for managing the hiring of the premises for
community events.
- Saaheli - This all ladies group arranges 3-4 events a
year and is becoming popular by the year. The group arranged various
workshops, trips, music events and a very successful dinner & dance
entertainment for ladies only.
