SKLPC Navratri – The History
Our First Navratri Festival was celebrated at our Hendon Samaj in 1980 with only around one hundred people. Music was provided by indiviual talents from our community. They practiced how to sing Aarti, Garbas, Raas and Doohas at our Hendon Hall, prior to the festival to ensure they can sing and play our traditional music for ten days. The number of people attending grew gradually to three hundered.
In 1981, with the success of the previous year and enthusiasm of our youth, we decided to celebrate Navratri in a much bigger hall, Preston Manor High School. We went door to door to sell tickets to members. The response from our youth was tremendous. The festival was a great success and ever since it has grown from strength to strength and the rest is history. It has become an integral part of our community activities. Our youth eagerly look forward to the festival.
Music: Traditional and spiritual
The festival has given inspiration to our youth to develop love for our traditional music and appreciate the importance of its spiritual value. It inspired many a talents from our community to form numerous music groups who provided their music services on social functions and wedding receptions and aspired them to perform at our Navratri Festivals. Overall effect was a strong and united community based on traditional and spiritual values.
We are proud to name the following music groups who have performed at various S.K.L.P.C Festivals and functions: -
