“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless”
Created in 2010, the VCP is an initiative to look after the volunteers who make the SKLPC events a success. The VCP allows for communication and co-operation between subcommittees and volunteers, such as allocation, handing out of passes, health and safety guidelines etc. It also provides a voice for the volunteers. One of the mainstays of the VCP is the provision of food and a Volunteer Recovery Area during the Navratri festival.
In 2012 the Navratri festival lasted 13 days, during which the Volunteer Recovery Area was used over 900 times. Each volunteer was given the opportunity to enjoy the food whilst in the comfort of the Area. The young team managing the Volunteer Recovery Area pulled out all of the stops this year to ensure that the volunteers were cared for which was appreciated.
The Volunteer appreciation barbeque took place on 30 September 2012. This year the volunteers and their families were treated to delicious pau bhaji, corn on the cob and barbeque mogo. The volunteers were entertained with bouncy castles, sumo wrestling and to top off the day India’s victory over Pakistan in the Twenty20 World Cup was shown live in the canteen hall.
The VCP is always keen to look after the valuable volunteers of the SKLPC and is always on the lookout for volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact email@example.com
